A New Insight Into Amicula, a Genus of Tiny Marine Benthic Diatoms With the Description of Two New Tropical Species and the Largest Mitogenome Known for a Stramenopile

The current article focuses on the morphological and molecular characterization of often inconspicuous genus Amicula. This recently erected from brackish marine sediments was monotypic but here we describe two new tropical species: Amicula micronesica sp. nov. vermiculata Once considered an incertae sedis regarding its higher rank taxonomy, position among family Diploneidaceae is proposed by phylogenetics. complete plastid mitochondrial genomes are also presented here. It appears that 177614-bp long mitogenome biggest yet recorded stramenopiles, due to invasion 57 introns. Moreover, it utilizes genetic code 4 for translation instead 1 usually found diatoms.
